CT Book Awards

Several months ago, I was given the opportunity to be one of the judges for CT’s 2017 Book Awards in the category of Art & Culture. My top pick, Jessica Hooten Wilson’s Giving the Devil His Due: Demonic Authority in the Fiction of Flannery O’Connor and Fyodor Dostoevsky ended up being the top pick overall in its category. I was happy to write the blurb for her book which appeared in CT’s December issue.

Wilson’s book is a popular academic work (if such a thing can truly be possible), skewed slightly toward the academic end of the spectrum, though still readily accessible. Culturally, O’Connor is having a moment (as she should), and so is the devil, so the book seems timeless and timely – a line I might have used in writing the blurb for the book. If so I apologize for being redundant.

I hope readers will check out Jessica Hooten Wilson’s body of work. I’m looking forward to following along as she continues to publish both in the academy and outside of it.
